〔國際新聞中心／綜合報導〕英國伍爾弗漢普頓的28歲媽媽皮爾絲懷孕時胃口特怪，一天要吃20塊海綿，某次看到母親幫鸚鵡換沙時突然又想吃沙子，還將海綿和沙子做成三明治一起吃下肚，幸好她的兩個小孩出生後都很健康。原來這位媽媽在懷孕時罹患異食癖（Pica disorder），特別渴望某些不是食品的物品。造成異食癖的原因，包括孕婦缺乏某種營養素，例如缺鐵的孕婦就會想吃含鐵的泥土。
