打電話或寫信給教宗方濟的人注意了：下次你家電話鈴響，可能真的是回電，或者下次你收到信，可能就是他回信。倫敦《郵報》報導，教宗方濟喜歡打傳統電話，招呼語很簡單，「Hi，我是教宗」，把對方嚇一跳。一個義大利人的兄弟在命案裡喪生，接到方濟的慰問電話，一個在羅馬工作的哥倫比亞女送書給方濟，方濟打電話謝謝她。
